Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou took accountability for his team’s inconsistency this season following a surprising 2-1 home loss to promoted Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Sunday.

After knocking out Manchester City in the League Cup and defeating Aston Villa 4-1 in the Premier League last weekend, Spurs faced a 3-2 upset by Galatasaray in the Europa League on Thursday.

On Sunday, Spurs fans booed at the final whistle as Ipswich celebrated their first Premier League win since April 2002.

The loss left Tottenham in 10th place with 16 points from 11 matches.

“Our inconsistency this season ultimately comes down to me, my approach, and something I need to work on to help the players,” Postecoglou told reporters.

The Australian coach dismissed the idea that Spurs’ Thursday-Sunday schedule was the cause of their struggles.

“If that were the case, we'd likely feel it more at the end of games, but we’re not,” he added.

Midfielder Pape Matar Sarr and striker Dominic Solanke exited Sunday’s game with injuries, but Postecoglou suggested neither injury was serious.

“I think Pape’s fine; he just took a knock,” he said. “Dom jarred his knee and felt pain but wanted to keep going. Hopefully, it’s nothing serious.”
