League Two side Harrogate Town pulled off a stunning upset, defeating League One Wrexham 1-0 to advance to the FA Cup's second round.

The only goal came midway through the first half when Jack Muldoon was left unmarked during a corner, and he deftly glanced a header into the net.

Despite their higher league standing—38 places above Harrogate—Wrexham struggled to create significant chances, with Harrogate’s defense holding firm.

Their best opportunity to equalize arrived just before the hour mark, but goalkeeper James Belshaw denied George Dobson’s close-range effort.

With this victory, Harrogate progresses to the FA Cup second round for the fifth consecutive year, and they will feature in Sunday evening's draw.

For Wrexham, it marks the first time since 2021 that they've exited the competition in the first round, when they were also eliminated by Harrogate.

Wrexham made three changes from their recent 2-2 draw with Charlton and appeared disjointed early on, despite an initial chance for Ollie Palmer.

Harrogate, on the other hand, made two changes from their loss to Notts County, including a start for Muldoon, who had yet to score in League Two this season but made a decisive impact in this match.

Muldoon's header came from an in-swinging corner, where he found space at the near post between two Wrexham defenders to beat Arthur Okonkwo.

Belshaw was crucial in preserving the lead, especially when he thwarted Dobson's best effort.

Late in the match, Wrexham thought they had scored through Mo Faal, but the goal was ruled offside, securing Harrogate's victory.

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson: "We dominated the first early exchanges. I thought our approach play really was good, but lacked conviction in our crossing and our finishing to get that goal.

"Then we've conceded a goal from a set play, which gave a team who are good at hanging in there - that's what they do – they did it our place last year; they're a backs-to-the-wall type team, and we gave them something to hang on to.

"Second half, we've pinned them in for practically the whole of the 45 minutes, got cross after cross in, got in positions, but couldn't find that moment of quality. If we're honest the conviction in around the box wasn't where it needs to be."
