Jean-Philippe Mateta’s first-half goal secured Crystal Palace’s first Premier League win of the season, edging out a sluggish Tottenham.

Returning to the starting lineup, Mateta capitalized on a defensive error by Micky van de Ven, slamming home his third goal of the season after a box scramble.

Spurs rallied, with Van de Ven’s deflected shot hitting the post and Palace keeper Dean Henderson pulling off a brilliant save to deny James Maddison’s milestone 200th league appearance.

Early in the second half, Eberechi Eze’s close-range effort was ruled offside, while Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski narrowly missed a chance to level the score.

Eze was a persistent threat, appealing for a penalty after a tug in the box, but the referee waved play on.

Substitute Richarlison missed a clear chance to equalize, failing to connect with Pedro Porro’s cross.

Palace nearly doubled the lead as Adam Wharton’s powerful shot was parried by Spurs’ keeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Tottenham pressed hard in the final minutes, but Palace’s defense held firm to escape the relegation zone with a well-earned clean sheet.
